Paranormal investigators are always trying to figure out the
best way to stir up the entities that we are trying to
document.
For some this means provoking. Provoking, of course, means
being an obnoxious ass and trying to rile the spirits into
showing themselves or even becoming confrontational.
I don't provoke. Since most of my investigations, both past
and upcoming, are aimed at what appear to be mostly benign,
sometimes even friendly spirits, I do not think that it would
be proper for me to start trouble.
While I can see where it is proper in some circumstances, I
am just a nice guy when it comes down to it, and I don't see
any reason to act differently around a ghost.
Other investigators try everything from special stones to
mystical chants and prayers to get their targets to step
forward.
I am currently trying something else. I am trying to flush
them from where they hide into the open.
A theory that I first heard put forth on Ghost Hunters
states that if you have paranormal activity scattered about,
but have one area such as a basement or an attic where you see
or hear nothing - that might just be where they go to hide -
their "quiet place" if you will.
I got my idea while I was comparing several different
hunts held at the Rohs Opera House. I wasn't so much comparing
the quantity or quality of evidence as I was personal experiences.
On an early hunt there, the place seemed to have a much higher
degree of energy. We experienced numerous cold spots and energy
spikes that night. No night since has come close.
What was different that night? I've been tracking the moon
cycles, but haven't noticed any trends. There had been
construction on the building then, but there has been
even more since.
Then it hit me. That first night I had placed a standard
camcorder in the basement of the theater illuminated with a
500 watt spot light. Only two other variables from night are
known that separated it from subsequent hunts. Those will be
addressed in other experiments. Otherwise it was just me and
some friends stumbling around in the dark with a bunch of
cameras.
So on our July 24th, 2010 hunt, I placed that same light in
the basement. As I write this I am still reviewing the
evidence. At this point the results are inconclusive.
The audio and video are not showing any greater degree of
activity. As a matter of fact, it is looking like we may have
brought home LESS audio evidence that night. However, I
attribute this to contamination. I hosted a large group that
night and the complete silence where we tend to find EVPs was
rare.
The energy level did seem higher though. We encountered
several cold spots - although nothing drastic that was
measured - and several times different members of the crew got
"the chills" - that electric charge you feel when
you come in contact with something paranormal. None of that is
evidence though. Evidence is what I want.
We are going to continue the experiment. In any location
where we can pinpoint our "quiet place" we are going
to try placing different lights there. In addition to the 500
watt spot light we have a strobe light and a UV light. The
spot is not appropriate for anyplace that can catch fire - it
gets HOT. Besides, nothing is more annoying than a
strobe light.
