Welcome to the first post of my new blog. I have wanted to get back to writing one for some time. While the articles on site are meant to be insightful, in-depth, and interesting sometimes a guy just wants to post something about nothing. Not everything I type has to be “gold”.
I wish I had the creativity, the time, or the discipline to write every day. I don’t. Heck, I won’t guarantee that I will write for it consistently at all. I do know that it won’t be about the paranormal a lot of time.
I decided today would be a good day to start. I just got back from The Scarefest yesterday so I have plenty of things on my mind. Since I have already addressed our issues with our live webcam feed from the convention, I think I will vent a moment about something else...
I AM PISSED AT ZAK BAGANS!
This emotion has nothing directly to do with neither the paranormal nor the Ghost Adventures TV show. I am sure he is a swell guy.
But I can’t help but think he took advantage of his fans a bit at The Scarefest.
You see, his appearance at The Scarefest was the official launch of his book tour for “Dark World: Into the Shadows with the Lead Investigator of The Ghost Adventures Crew”. It’s already a best seller and I am sure it is a fine piece of literature.
The list price on the cover is $24.95. I knew going in that the book would be cheaper online, but he was charging $40 a pop for autographed copies. Unfortunately (unless you had the foresight to ask someone who had already gotten theirs) a person…me for example…would have no way of knowing this until they had already stood in line for an hour or so.
So what is an autographed, first edition, autographed, copy worth? I surrender that I am a capitalist myself and it is worth whatever the public will pay. However, I can’t help but feel like he was taking advantage of his fans in this case. I don’t know how many people slogged through that line this weekend, but I assure you he made out like the proverbial bandit.
At the other (admittedly few) book signings that I had attended, you purchased a book at FACE VALUE and then the author signed the book FREE to show their appreciation for your interest and that you put forth the effort to see them instead of just ordering it online.
You can rest assured that I will ask next time.
